Is Swearing Cool??

Bahen Ke L@@$%, Teri Maa C&&#@ Doonga!!!

Recently I was travelling from Delhi to Kanpur and got up after hearing these words… that too at 5:30 in the morning. But I ignored them (just like any other time) assuming that the kids who are fighting, are from the lowest end of the social hierarchy and are not aware of various social protocols that call for avoiding this kind of language.

But is there really any existence of social protocol which states that we should not swear? In today's world, is it really BAD to swear or is it COOL?

There were times when we used to look down upon people who used the 'F' word in their normal conversations and it was a big deal if some one used any abusive language. I clearly remember the day I used the F-Word for the first time and how all my friends boycotted me for next few days and all the fuss that was created all around me because of the newly acquired word in my vocabulary. I am not talking about some 18th century period but of the year 2000. It was this big a deal to swear against anyone in public at that time. The changed lyrics of the song, "Sexy, Sexy, Sexy mujhe log bolain" to "Baby, Baby" is the proof of how Indians looked at the matter, and this was not the only song to face the public hue and cry.

But from the mid 2000, the idiot box initiated the wind of change by naming lack of protest as acceptance to change. MTV, a very popular channel amongst the teenagers led this movement to change with its popular programs like Roadies.

When it comes to entertainment, our very own Bollywood can also not be ignored for a long time, with movies like Kaante (and many others) carefully used words sounding very similar to popular swears to the cult movies like Omkara, that started with verbal abuse, won as many as 3 National and 7 Filmfare Awards.

If one ever scans through any of the popular reality channel programs today, one can surely hear more beeps (that's due to censor board) than the real conversation. All the so called celebrities whom we idolize feel no shame in using these cool words in front of entire India. It is these beeps that help these programs in climbing the important TRP's. All these channels have time and again given the plain logic that if people (who respond through TRP's) like it then we show it and claim that the Indian viewers are coming out of age.

But I would like to ask that do we get any choice? All we can choose from is one beep producing program against the other. Or is the Gen-Y so habituated to swear that they don't care, indeed they feel it's cool to use swears in their normal lingo. Or does the Gen-Y find it's cool to use F-Word in public???

Do respond!!! I would like to know what you guys think about it.

IS IT REALLY COOL TO SWEAR???!!!

Bloody Rocking mail Shashank buddy!!!

But on a serious note, I would like to say that the future of India is in the hands of Gen-Y, which actually does think swearing is cool. It is difficult to ignore the difference that has cropped up in the Indian society in the past 10 years. The young crowd today doesn't think twice before speaking the F-word and according to them, it IS considered cool. They use it so casually and for them its a way to mingle with the existing crowd.

As for movies go the F words can be used brilliantly 2 example would be first scene of "full metal jacket" and "big lebowski" Swearing should not be an issue if its in limit and not offending anyone...
I feel swearing can be cool if used cleverly..

Swearing is like the kissing scenes in Bollywood. Remember when the news about Mallika Sherawat giving some 17 odd kisses in some movie way back in early 2000s. It spread like fire. Much was said about it. But nowadays people do not care much about such news in upcoming movies. I am in no way saying that swearing is good. Indeed it is bad and should be avoided until absolutely necessary (:P).
With globalisation, times are changing fast. These things are here to stay. It is left for us individuals to decide whether we should take up such habits or not.

Everything written in the blog is true ...the only point of difference u see in swearing, in the social strata ..are the use of swear words ..the ones residing at the higher level use the words in English and the others use it in hindi or the language know to them ..somehow the kids today think including the swear words in their sentences will get them in the “cool” group ..and that’s true ..its a way of being popular ..want proof ..watch any reality shows ..the one having the highest swear words are at the top in TRP’s ..roadies for example ..forget the participants of the shows even the people hosting it or judging it use it ..and these guys the host n judge are older than the participants ..at times like this who should be blamed ..i don’t get the use of the "beep" that is used while hiding the swear word ..it often happens when half the word is already said..

I think Gen Y doesn't think so much about using the swear words.... they grow out of it in a while.. when they go become parents and invariably want well mannered kids no matter how crazy their own youth was. There is a sense of freedom of using such words and that is the charm of it rather than the real or implied meaning of it !

Well.. i have always believed excess of anything is bad.....so does swearing.....Just think for years ahead if ppl younger to u kids especially will come n swear to u in the way they talk will it look or sound good to u....
We r Indians .. we have been taught to respect others so I think it should b thought over before some1 starts to swear.
I have been staying in Australia for a couple of years now have seen the culuture up here swearing is there but again in a controlled way its not considered good here too then why do we leave our culuture our dignity just because its supposedly cool!!!

swearing is for 'oh-i-wanna-join-the-crowd' wimps.
im a 15 yr old boy and in my school those who talk politely are
considered weirdos. those who talk roughly like the seed-brained morons on
mtv are considered normal.
and those who fill each of their sentences
with filthy, stinking swear words are considered gods of coolness.
many good behaved kids get spoilt
bcoz of this attitude. THIS HAS TO BE BROUGHT TO AN END.
even im called an alien, weirdo and what not.
but i dont feel anything.
if im called a weirdo, so be it. but i dont want to become a swearing-wimp
